Regional Information
West Lake Hills is situated along FM 2244 on the west side of Lake Austin. The city borders the edge of the Edwards Plateau, six miles west of downtown Austin in west central Travis County.
Education
Eanes Independent School District boundaries include parts of Austin as well as the municipalities of Rollingwood and West Lake Hills. Eanes ISD serves approximately 7,200 students in grades K-12 at six elementary schools, two middle schools, and Westlake High School. (The high school is “Westlake” – all one word as per City Hall.) The district is the largest in the state to have all schools as well as the entire district designated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Seven campuses are also U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools. The Eanes community is vitally committed to educational excellence by engaging every student in rigorous academic experiences and enriching opportunities. Also, 39% of residents 25 and over in the Westbank area have bachelor’s degrees, and 38% have graduate or professional degrees.
Recreation
West Lake Hills is close to upscale shopping developments, most major roadways, championship level golf courses, and hike and bike trails all while still maintaining the private, secluded ambiance of this luxury community. The hills west of the city include more than 7,566 public acres. Residents of West Lake Hills have access to boating, waterskiing, sailing, windsurfing, rowing, canoeing, fishing and swimming in some of Texas’ most beautiful surroundings. Barton Springs Pool, the famous 1,000 foot long spring-fed “jewel” of Austin with a year-round water tempera- ture of 68 degrees is only minutes away, and is located within the 360-acre Zilker Park on the shores of Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin. The Austin area also features entertainment venues tailor made for the outdoor type, as well as the art lover. It’s home to rock climbers, mountain bikers, rock and rollers, and theater lovers..

Many of the homes throughout the area are nestled in the beautiful hills on the south bank of the Colorado River.
